Patient Information for PREVACID
Prevacid (lansoprazole delayed-release capsules)
should be taken before breakfast. Patients should be cautioned that
Prevacid should not be chewed or crushed. Capsules should be swallowed
whole with sufficient water before breakfast.

pylori Eradication and Compliance
Alternative Administration Options:
For patients who have difficulty swallowing capsules, Prevacid capsules
can be opened, and the intact granules contained within can be sprinkled
on 1 tablespoon of applesauce and swallowed immediately. The granules
should not be chewed or crushed.
For patients who have a nasogastric tube in place, Prevacid capsules
can be opened and the intact granules mixed in 40 mL of apple juice
and injected through the nasogastric tube into the stomach. After
administering the granules, the nasogastric tube should be flushed
with additional apple juice to clear the tube.
The granules have also been shown in vitro to remain intact when
exposed to apple, cranberry, grape, orange, pineapple, prune, tomato,
and V-8 vegetable juice and stored for up to 30 minutes.

H. pylori Eradication and Compliance:
To ensure treatment success, when receiving Triple therapy for the
eradication of H. pylori , make sure you take all prescribed medication
for the entire treatment duration. Daily doses should be taken before
meals.
If for some reason you cannot complete the treatment, consult your
physician.
