Microalbuminuria: 1. A subtle increase in the urinary excretion of the protein albumin that cannot be detected by a conventional assay. In diabetes it is an early sign of kidney disease. 2. A value for urinary albumin excretion that ranges from 30 to 299 mg per 24 hours, as measured by an immunologic assay. The normal urinary albumin is less than 30 mg per 24 hours.
